NewsChurches Conservation Trust introduce staff to bell ringingOn Wednesday 5th July the Churches Conservation Trust which is responsible for St Peter's church in Northampton held a staff away-day based at and around the church. Visits were made to the area where Northampton Castle had stood, to the currently being restored Old Black Lion pub next to the church which when complete is to house the main office of the Trust, and there was a guided tour of the historic church. One of the other activities was an introduction to bell ringing lead by St Peter's Tower Captain, Bridget Paul. Helped by husband, Graham, staff were told about how bells function and were given opportunities to chime a bell, to ring at backstroke and also to ring rounds and simple changes on a set of hand chime bars. Most people seemed quite interested in hearing about ringing and sampling what was involved which hopefully will help when they are dealing with other churches maintained by the Trust which have ringing peals of bells. A successful practiceNRS members combined with members of the PDG Northampton Branch to hold a joint practice at St Peter's, Cogenhoe on Wednesday 20th October 2021. Fifteen ringers attended with the ringing being under the control of Branch Ringing Master, Giles Willson. As well as rounds and call changes for the learners present, ringing included courses of London Surprise Minor and Cogenhoe Delight Minor (twice), the method being first rung in this tower in 1965.
